ANSI Education and Training - 2005

The following are upcoming ANSI virtual workshops and classroom
training scheduled for 2005. Sign up early and receive a 10%
discount - space is limited. All you need is a computer and
a telephone for the virtual workshops. The workshops provide
a forum for high-level discussions on specific issues, and
are designed around the key questions submitted by the participants.
Each workshop is facilitated by an ANSI instructor and may
include relevant ANSI staff members. Participate in classroom
training at the ANSI New York City location in January and
get a opportunity to meet and interact with key ANSI staff
members.

International Standards Development Program Cycle Virtual
Workshop
Get an overview of the six-stage international standard
development program and recent changes to the ISO/IEC Directives;
time frames from the preliminary stage to the proposal stage
(new work item - NP) through to the publication of a standard
(International Standards - IS.
Thursday, January 6, 1-3 p.m.
International Committee Management: Roles, Responsibilities,
and Meetings Virtual Workshop
Get answers to questions about the roles and responsibilities
of the Secretariat and all committee officers. Understand
the relationships of ANSI's with ISO, IEC and JTC1. Learn
about requirements for preparation and distribution of documents,
international committee meetings, and helpful hints on preparation
for, and conduct at, meetings. Also covered is a review of
special issues for Secretariats, including electronic management
tools.

U.S. Delegate Representation in the International Arena Virtual
Workshop
Ineffective representation in international standardization
activities may result in standards that run counter to the
best interests of U.S. industry, and that could have a serious
impact on U.S. trade and economic growth. Get specific tactics
to present positions more effectively, and a better understanding
of international politics.
Tuesday, January 18, 9-5 p.m., ANSI New York City
Standardization Principles and Practices: Fundamentals of
Standardization and Globalization
Get an overview of the development and use of industry standards,
conformity assessment, quality and environmental management
system standards, and the impact of standardization on global
trade in this course for standards novices.
Wednesday, January 19, 9-5 p.m., ANSI New York City
American National Standards Development: The American Way
This program provides a practical "how to" on the
development of American National Standards (ANS). It includes
tips and techniques for effective participation, the benefits
and value of ANSI accreditation as a standard developer, and
the step-by-step application of the ANS development process
and procedures.
Thursday, January 20, 9-5 p.m., ANSI New York City
Development of International Standards: Working Together
Explore the processes and stages of development of ISO, IEC,
and JTC1 international standards. Get an understanding of
the "project approach" in international standards
development, and identify the roles and responsibilities of
the various standards organizations and committee personnel.
Understand the general rules and procedures governing the
conduct of U.S. delegates to international meetings. Learn
how to prepare an International Standard in accordance with
the ISO/IEC Directives, and understand the alternative standards
development programs, and adoption of existing standards.
February 17, 1-3 p.m.
Leadership Training: Committee Management Virtual Workshop
Get insight and advice on standards development as a group
activity and leading a global work team in the development
of relevant standards. Learn how to manage the consensus-building
process, and facilitate group decisions. Understand the power
of strategic planning and the importance of market relevance.
