Opportunity to Discuss U.S. Model Codes Updates
by Karen Hall
Vice President, Technical Operations of the
National Hydrogen Association

The National Hydrogen Association is pleased to announce the opportunity to discuss the upcoming changes to the U.S. Model Codes to facilitate hydrogen energy systems in the U.S. Model Codes. Experts from the National Fire Protection Association Hydrogen Coordinating Group and the International Code Council (ICC) Ad Hoc Committee on Hydrogen Gas will be discussing their activities during a panel discussion at the NHA’s Annual Conference on April 28. Experts will briefly describe the activities, timescale, and issues they are facing within the NFPA and ICC code development activities, and answer questions from the hydrogen and fuel cell industry in the audience.

Both organizations are developing changes to the U.S. Model Codes to permit the installation of hydrogen energy systems. These activities are expected to facilitate the permitting of new hydrogen energy projects and installations, by having guidance for code officials on issues such as installation, separation distances, ventilation, and electrical connection.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Susan Townsend, the NHA’s new Chairman of the Codes & Standards Committee.
