NFPA's Hydrogen Coordinating Group
by Carl Rivkin, National Fire Protection Association

NFPA’s Hydrogen Coordinating Group (HCG) had their first in person meeting on January 28, 2003 at NFPA Headquarters in Quincy, MA. The purpose of this group is to identify areas in the NFPA Codes and Standards where additional safety requirements are needed to support the development of a hydrogen infrastructure. The group is intended to include the broadest possible representation.

At the January 28 meeting several codes and standards work areas were identified and task groups were formed to begin the work of developing code text. These areas included hydrogen storage, piping, and venting. The HCG will hold its next meeting as a teleconference on February 25, 2003 from 1-3 PM ET.
