by Karen Miller, National Hydrogen Association

The 14th World Hydrogen Energy Conference held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada June 9-13, was a success by any definition. The NHA was proud to co-locate our annual membership meeting with this international event. Over 1,100 participants from all over the world were present, deciding, at times, between nine concurrent sessions. There were three separate sessions relating to hydrogen safety, codes and standards. Presentations were made on the following topics:
  • Status of ISO/WD 22734: Hydrogen Generators Using the Water Electrolysis
  • SAE’s Fuel Cell Vehicle Standards Development Activities
  • Facilitating Commercialization of Hydrogen Technologies Through the Activities of ISO/TC 197
  • Hydrogen Codes and Standards: An Overview of US DOE Efforts
  • Codes and Standards in the United States for Stationary and Portable Fuel Cells
  • Safety Considerations in Retailing Hydrogen
  • Activities on Hydrogen Safety for the WE-NET Project: “Experiment and Simulation of the Hydrogen Dispersion”
  • Hydrogen Sensors from Electrodeposited Palladium Mesowires
  • Analytical Study on Fire and Explosion Phenomena in HTTR Hydrogen Production System
  • Acoustic Imaging Methods for the Non Destructive Evaluation of Composite Material High-Pressure Hydrogen Reservoirs
  • Hydrogen Deflagration Safety Studies in a Semi-open Space
  • International Electrotechnical Commission Activities of IEC TC 105
  • ISO Standards for Compressed Hydrogen Vehicle Fuel Systems – Real World Needs
